The Montreal Institute for Genocide and Human Rights Studies (MIGS) invites you to a workshop with Mr. Andrei Serbin Pont on 27 May 2014. His talk will focus on how governments and civil society in Latin America are working to advance the Responsibility to Protect. Please join us to discuss the possibility for future atrocity prevention initiatives between South America and Canada.

MIGS is hosting Mr. Andrei Serbin Pont, Research Coordinatorof the South-American think thank CRIES (Coordinadora Regional de Investigaciones Económicas y Sociales) based in Buenos Aires, in the context of an international civil society exchange program.The aim of the exchange is to create and solidify linkages between individuals and organizations in Latin American countries and Canada in order to further our efforts towards the prevention of genocide and mass atrocity crimes. Thanks to generous funding by the Washington-based Nexus Fund, MIGS and CRIES will be able to share, discuss and introduce new models and strategies that civil society groups in Latin America and Canada can use in order to engage relevant actors to advance in the development of sustainable public and foreign policies for the prevention of future atrocities. His biography can be found below.

Andrei Serbin Pont, is an international analyst and expert on Latin American foreign policy, peacekeeping operations, civil-military coordination, human rights and genocide and mass atrocity prevention. He has extensive experience working with civil society organizations across Latin America and currently holds a position as the Research Coordinator for the Buenos Aires-based think tank CRIES(Coordinadora Regional de Investigaciones Económicas y Sociales). CRIES is an umbrella organization with more than 70 research centers, think tanks, NGOs, foundations, academics and professionals across Latin America and holds advisory status for the Organization of American States, MERCOSUR and the Association of Caribbean States. Apart from his position at CRIES, Andrei Serbin Pont works as the Regional Liaison Officer for GPPAC (Global Partnership for the Prevention of Armed Conflict) and is a member of the International Coalition of the Responsibility to Protect’s Steering Committee. In addition, he works as an advisor to the Nexus Fund’s Global Advisory Council. He has a Bachelor´s in Liberal Arts in Public Policy from Universidad Nacional de San Martín (UNSAM, Argentina) and is a graduate from the National Defense School (EDENA, Argentina). He is in the process of completing his Master´s in International Relations in the San Tiago Dantas Program (UNESP-UNICAMP-PUCSP, Sao Paulo, Brazil).
